Uninvited Guests : Guesthouse

A series of recorded interviews with friends and strangers form the origins of the guest house, an impossible building composed of rooms gathered from elsewhere.

Uninvited Guests take you on a tour of this fragile place where the rooms are wired for noise and image, where the illicit and the everyday are half-heard and half-seen, where stories are continually told, traced and rubbed out.

Using elements of digital modelling and animation, sound and video, this innovative performance draws together places and events that interfere where they touch. On the edge of voyeurism, the company intrude into private rooms and play out personal incidents. Suffering from amnesia they curate a fleeting memorial of partial descriptions - an overflowing archive of stories and memories that teeters on the brink of collapse...

Arnolfini and DA2 commissioned Uninvited Guests to explore the interface between live presence and digital media as part of the DA2 Fluid Live Art Commission. Guest House has been developed during residencies at Arnolfini, Manchester Multimedia Centre in association with Digital Summer '99 and ZKM (Centre for Art and Media technology, Institute for Visual Media), Karlsruhe, Germany.

Uninvited Guests showcased soundwork for Guest House at RX: Moments of Modem Madness on Saturday 31st July.
