BLAST THEORY : DESERT RAIN

"Possibly the most technologically ambitious art installation ever made"

The Times 10th May 2000

Desert Rain is a game, a performance and an installation in which 6 visitors at a time work together. Having received a briefing in an antechamber each player is zipped into a fabric cubicle facing a screen of water spray.

Once inside the virtual world each member of the team must search for their target by navigating across deserts, motels and underground bunkers using travelators and live video links. Having completed your virtual mission two further rooms await you...

Desert Rain showcased at Bristol Industrial Museum
16th -20th June 2000
In association with Arnolfini Live

Performances last half an hour and can take up to six people at any one time. The show is suitable for all ages, although children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.

Enter Now

Seminar exploring human-computer interaction at Arnolfini, Bristol
(held Tuesday 20 June 2000, 12-5pm )

How do memory, gaming and consciousness play a part in a performance that operates through a complex technical interface? What are the roles of the performer and spectator when the audience become the participants dealing with the computer interface and the performers are mediators? 'Enter Now' is a one day seminar in which leading national and international artists, technologists and gamers will look at Desert Rain and other digital performance projects.
