Aurora - Luke Jerram

With support from DA2 and NESTA, Luke Jerram spent a week in the Sodankyla Geophysical Observatory with the curator and artist Nina Czeglady.

Each night was spent outside studying and documenting the Aurora Borealis at temperatures 30°C below freezing. Scientists were interviewed about their methodologies and a lecture was presented at the end of the week.

SMS poetry, documentary photographs and video were produced during this time - further creative projects are in the pipeline.

With thanks to all the staff at SGO of the University of Oulu, especially Prof Esa Turunen; and to Johan Silen of Institute of Physics, Helsinki.

Further information about the project can be found through Luke Jerram's web site (www.lukejerram.com) and NESTA.
