Apple's QuickTime software is one of the most popular ways of showing video, live radio and TV broadcasts and interactive VR movies. (NB: available for PCs as well as Macs)

 

 

Macromedia Flash Player
Flash movies are commonly used for short animations, although many artists produce entire web sites built in Flash

 

 

Macromedia Shockwave Player
Media produced with Macromedias' Director software may include sound, animation and video. Shockwave movies are often highly interactive and you'll find it used for a lot of multimedia art on the Internet. The plug-in includes the Flash Player so you only need to download this installer to get both

 

RealPlayer plays streaming audio and video from the Internet, including live radio and TV broadcasts. It can be downloaded from RealPlayer site; The adjacent link will take you to the download page, from where you should look carefully for the basic version which is free.
